Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna CPSE with a turnover exceeding Rs. 1 Lakh Crore (FY 23-24), plays a pivotal role as a Nation-Builder. To fill essential front-line roles at its Steel Plants, Units, and Mines throughout India, SAIL is seeking 249 dynamic, goal-oriented, and talented individuals to join as Management Trainees (Technical) in E1 grade across various Engineering disciplines. These positions will be responsible for the operational management of SAIL’s Plants, Units, and Mines nationwide.
Position and Eligibility Criteria
1. Post Name: Management Trainee (Technical) – MTT : 249
2. Minimum Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an average of 65% marks across all semesters, regardless of the weighting assigned by the Institute or University, is required. This qualification applies to candidates from any of the following eight Engineering disciplines: Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical, or Metallurgy.
3. Upper Age limit: 28 years as on 25.07.2024, i.e., not born earlier than 25.07.1996.
Salary Details
- Basic Pay: Management Trainees (Technical) will receive a basic pay of Rs. 50,000 per month initially, in the pay scale of Rs. 50,000-1,60,000.
- Designation Post Training: Upon successful completion of one year of training, Management Trainees (Technical) will be designated as Assistant Managers and placed in the pay scale of Rs. 60,000-1,80,000.
- Dearness Allowance: In addition to Basic Pay, they will receive Dearness Allowance.
- Perquisites and Benefits: Management Trainees (Technical) will be entitled to perquisites under a cafeteria approach, and benefits such as Provident Fund (PF), Gratuity, and other allowances as per company rules.
- Additional Benefits: They will also receive benefits like Leave encashment, Housing/House Rent Allowance (HRA), and free medical facilities for themselves and dependents, as per company policies.
- Cost to Company (CTC): The approximate CTC will be in the range of Rs. 16-17 Lakhs per annum at the minimum of E-1 grade, excluding Performance Related Pay (PRP), location-based allowances, etc.
- Liability: As it is direct recruitment based on initial basic pay, the company will not bear any liability related to salary, leave salary, pension contribution, etc., from any previous employment of the candidates.
Selection Process
- SAIL plans to recruit Management Trainees (Technical) in eight engineering disciplines using GATE 2024 scores.
- The recruitment will consider scores from the following GATE 2024 papers: Chemical (CH), Civil (CE), Computer Science and Information Technology (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC), Instrumentation Engineering (IN), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Metallurgical Engineering (MT).
- Eligibility for application is open to candidates who have appeared for the GATE 2024 Examination.
- Selection criteria will be based on candidates’ performance in the relevant GATE 2024 examination paper and SAIL’s specific requirements.
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified via the SAIL careers page, email, or phone to participate in Group Discussion and Interview rounds.
- Final selection will be determined based on a merit list that combines GATE-2024 scores, Group Discussion, and Interview performance, with weightage distributed as 75% for GATE-2024 scores, 10% for Group Discussion, and 15% for Interview performance.

- Eligibility Verification: Candidates should ensure they meet all eligibility criteria before applying. Registration with SAIL will be provisional, and eligibility will be verified during the Group Discussion (GD) and Interview stages.
- Admit Card/Call Letter: Issuance of Admit card or Call letter does not imply acceptance of candidature. The candidature of a registered candidate can be rejected at any stage of the recruitment process or even after joining if any provided information is found to be false or not meeting the eligibility criteria.
- Verification Process: Eligibility verification will occur during the GD/Interview stages, and candidates must ensure all information provided is accurate and aligns with the eligibility criteria throughout the recruitment process.
