Eligibility Criteria

Education Requirement

 

  • You need to have passed the 12th grade or an equivalent exam from a recognized school or college.

Note: If you’re otherwise qualified, the authority in charge might be flexible about the qualifications.

Age Limit

 

  • You should be between 18 and 27 years old when the application deadline closes.

Note 1: There may be relaxations in the age limit according to the existing rules of the Indian government.

Note 2: The important date for determining your age limit is the closing date of the application. Your age will be calculated based on the date of birth mentioned in your high school certificate or an equivalent certificate. Requests to change this date later won’t be accepted.

Fees and Payment Methods

 

  • Fee: You need to pay a fee of Rs 100 (One hundred rupees). However, if you’re from the SC/ST category or if you’re a woman, you don’t need to pay any fee.
  • Payment Methods: You can pay the fee in different ways: 
    • Cash: You can pay cash to the Cashier at the Press Council of India office.
    • Demand Draft: You can make a demand draft in favor of the Secretary, Press Council of India.
    • Cheque: You can also make a payment via cheque in favor of the Secretary, Press Council of India.
    • Online Payment: If you prefer, you can make the payment directly to the Press Council of India’s bank account online. However, you must provide a copy of the payment receipt (UTR number) along with your application form.

How to Apply?

If you want to apply, fill out the attached form and send it to the Secretary of the Press Council of India in New Delhi. Along with the form, include copies of your certificates, proof of your age, and any relevant experience.

Make sure to send everything within 45 days after the job advertisement is published in the Employment News. Only applications that include the required form will be looked at.

(a) The test will have multiple-choice questions only. The questions will be in English and Hindi.

(b) If you answer a question incorrectly, you will lose 0.25 marks. So, be careful while answering.

(c) After the exam, you can’t ask for your answers to be checked again. They won’t reconsider your marks, and they won’t reply to any letters about it.

Skill Test in Stenography

Candidates who score high enough on the exam, as decided by the Council, will move on to the Skill Test. The Council might set specific marks to qualify for each part of the exam.

In the Skill Test, candidates will need to take a stenography test. They will listen to a 10-minute dictation in English at a speed of 80 words per minute for the Stenographer Grade D position. Then, they’ll need to transcribe what they heard.
